[There are spoilers ahead for last night’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy. If you haven’t watched yet, come back to this post at a later date.]

Grey’s Anatomy fans were already bracing themselves for Jackson Avery’s final episode on the show last night, but they got hit with a one-two punch when another character left totally unexpectedly. Greg Germann, who played Tom Koracick, has also exited the series. Apparently, Germann might make guest appearances on Grey’s in the future, but his time as a regular is over.

When Tom heard Jackson was leaving to run his foundation from Boston, he practically begged him for a job. While suffering from COVID-19 earlier in the season, Koracick was the only person in his hospital room to survive. The rest of his “roommates” were people of color. That inspired him to want to make a career change. “Let me become worthy of being spared,” he told Jackson while asking for a job. “I want to be an ally.” So just like that, Koracick is out!

Germann released this statement re: his exit. “To have worked with all the incredibly talented people involved with Grey’s over the past few years has been such a privilege. A big thank you to the fans as it has truly been a shared experience!”

And Krista Vernoff, the showrunner for Grey’s, also released a statement.“Greg Germann is a comic genius and we are so lucky that he brought his talents to our show these last few years. We will miss Greg terribly in the day to day — but we plan to see Tom Koracick again!”

Now the big question is… what will Owen and Teddy have to argue about!?
